Regional Award Honors the Fastest Growing Companies in Maryland
COLUMBIA, Md., October 9, 2008 – Open source innovator and SNORT® creator, Sourcefire, Inc. (Nasdaq:FIRE), a leader in Enterprise Threat Management, today announced that it has been ranked 13th on the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 for the Maryland region. Deloitte’s Fast 50 program ranks the fastest growing companies in key regions across the United States and Canada based on percentage revenue growth over five years.
Solidifying Sourcefire’s position as one of the most innovative companies in the network security market, the company recently launched several solutions to increase the effectiveness of customers’ security investments, while simplifying management and control. In September, Sourcefire announced its strategy for increasing security for virtual environments, as well as the latest version of its flagship Sourcefire 3D System, which allows customers to automate key security functions.
“Sourcefire is providing solutions that are designed to effectively and efficiently protect all facets of customers’ networks, both physical and virtual, without requiring additional security investments,” said Michele Perry, CMO of Sourcefire. “It’s this dedication to customer security and success that has enabled us to grow 489 percent over the last five years and landed Sourcefire on the Deloitte Fast 50 four times.”
To qualify for the Deloitte Technology Fast 50, companies must have had operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2003 and $5,000,000 in 2007 and be headquartered in Maryland. In addition, the company must own proprietary technology or intellectual property that contributes to a significant portion of the company’s operating revenues or devote a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology.
“Deloitte’s Maryland Technology Fast 50 companies have shown the strength, vision and tenacity to succeed in today’s very competitive technology environment,” said Gary Tabach, Greater Washington Office Regional Managing Partner, Deloitte & Touche, LLP. “We applaud the successes of Sourcefire and acknowledge it as one of the very few to accomplish such a fast growth rate over the past five years.”
Sourcefire is consistently recognized for its innovation and industry leadership with more than 40 awards to date. Most recently, the Sourcefire 3D System™ received the Product Innovation award in Enterprise Threat Management and the Reader’s Trust award in the Best Security Solution category from Network Products Guide. Other industry accolades include Martin Roesch named as one of eWeek's Top 100 Most Influential People in IT and Snort as Best Network Security solution by SC Magazine Awards Europe 2008.
